June 29th, 2009

Project start date was officially 17 June.

Practical completion date 23 April.

The demolition and construction team have commented on the feeling of tranquillity and protection which they have enjoyed on this sacred site.

Thank God for the progress so far and pray for his protection over the rest of the project.

Thank God for the sacrificial gifts that have brought us this far and pray for the fulfilment of all pledges and promises.

Prayer and Fasting

June 29th, 2009

Staff team and vestry want to invite the whole parish to a time of concerted prayer and fasting, as we build the new church community centre and set about appointing the next vicar.
We believe that it is essential for us to maintain peace and harmony by seeking God’s will together.
The ideas so far:

A week of prayer and fasting
Home groups to hold a prayer meeting instead of their normal format
Sunday service to be restructured to include an open-ended prayer meeting at the end of the service (in the same way as a Moed service)

We will shortly announce the dates for this special time.

Development Week 2

June 22nd, 2009

The vicarage has gone. The hall is going fast. The old church is still standing, and will be the last to go. Fine weather has helped the demolition crew get on with the job. The demolition boss has been living on site in his caravan, for security. There is a big heap of firewood, available for anyone. Demolition will continue into next week.

Meanwhile the first site meeting was attended by Martin Bridge from St Chad’s, people from Skyward Construction and the quantity surveyor. Our architect will be at the next meeting on 2 July.

We have prepared a list of items for attention of the builder, as a result of the recent parish workshops. We are hopeful that most of what leaders have asked for is already in the plans.

Building Starts At Last

June 10th, 2009

After several weeks of frustrating delays, we received building consent from Auckland City Council on Tuesday 9 June. Skyward Construction wasted no time in putting up security fences. The demolition company moved in and started pulling down the old hall in Meadowbank Road.

Skyward are calling two-weekly site meetings, starting next Thursday 18 June till 11 March 2010.

The timing was quite neat for Martin and Valerie, as they returned from a short family visit to Sydney to this welcome news.

How will we use the new church?

June 4th, 2009

About fifty church members met last Tuesday 2 June in Mt Carmel School to discuss how we will actually make best use of the wonderful new facilities opening next year. We broke into eight groups to look at the areas of Children and Youth, Senior Citizens , Community Groups, Community programmes, Worship and Music, Hospitality, Prayer and Retreats, Arts and Crafts. There were a lot of ideas and excitement. Each group produced abundant suggestions for action. All the notes are being typed up and will be published as soon as possible.

The design of the building cannot be changed at this time. However, there are lots of questions about the fit out and furnishings. We hope that continuing task groups will grapple with the issues in each of the eight areas in the next few months.
