40 Days of Love

November 27th, 2009

Lent 2010 (7 February-28 March)

Unearth the core of Jesus’ ministry in how we show love to the people God has placed in our lives here on earth. How can we communicate more like Jesus? How do we love our creator, our neighbours, and ourselves?
We’d love for you to embark on this truly new journey with us.
Let’s discover together a love that is patient, kind, forgiving, unselfish and always speaks the truth, all during this six-week journey into the very heart of the matter.

Jesus answered, “The most important command is this: ‘Listen, people of Israel! The Lord our God is the only Lord. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second command is this: ‘Love your neighbour as you love yourself.’ There are no commands more important than these.” Mark 12:29-31

Key Tools include:

40 Days of Love Preparation Rally Message.
Sunday messages.
The Relationship Principles of Jesus, a comprehensive campaign resource workbook - includes 40 days of daily devotional readings, as well as the small group study guide.
Six small group lessons taught by Rick Warren on DVD.
Six weekly scripture memory verses.
Other events and personal acts of love designed to deepen our commitment

40 Days of Love

Selwyn Foundation Partnership

November 27th, 2009

In our communities today there are older New Zealanders who need help and support. Some are lonely, some are cared for by their families or friends, and those caregivers sometimes need respite.
The Selwyn Foundation offers outreach to older people through a working partnership with parishes in greater Auckland. Operating through a number of parish buildings in greater Auckland, these Selwyn Centres provide:

a morning programme (approx 9.30 am to 12.30 pm), including gentle exercise and socialising, as well as morning tea (for around $2 to $3 per person)
transport if needed (a donation is requested for this service)
a midday meal at some centres, usually at a cost of $4 to $5

For older people, especially those isolated and/or living on their own, the Selwyn Day Centres provide a chance to get out and socialise. For caregivers, especially those providing care to those with mild dementia, this is a chance for a break

St Chad’s Partnership

St Chad’s will enter into partnership with the Selwyn Foundation to run a Selwyn centre one morning a week, to start with, in the new church and community centre. The programme will be open to all local residents.
St Chad’s will employ a part-time co-ordinator to run the programme, initially for six hours a week. This position, funded by the Selwyn Trust, will start early next year, to prepare for the opening of the centre in May or June.
For more information about the co-ordinator’s job, please contact Martin or Hilary.

Staffing Plans

November 27th, 2009

Candidates for the appointment as next vicar of St Chad’s will be interviewed shortly. Hopefully, the appointment will be announced in December. The new vicar should take office soon after or possibly even before the retirement of Martin Bridge at the end of May 2010. Read the rest of this entry »

We can see the rooms

November 18th, 2009

As the framing goes up, you can now see the individual rooms within the building. The roof is all in place. It begins to feel like a real place of gathering and worship.
